Farnell element14 waves 3D tracking HAT into play

FLICK hatDubbed the Flick HAT, it supports 3D gesture detection – swipes and flicks – at distances of up to 10cm.

It allows engineers to expand the control options for Raspberry Pi and I2C-enabled projects, potentially providing a more flexible user experience.

Farnell says:

The use of near-field technology means that Flick HAT can be used to control a PC, TV, music system or other device even when the project is concealed behind non-conductive materials such as wood or acrylic. The Flick HAT also supports communication over I2C. Implementation is simplified with fast, solder-free, plug-and-play installation whilst software libraries allow designers to explore the full functionality provided by 3D tracking and gesture sensing.

Made by Pi Supply, the Flick HAT is priced at £17. Kit contents include the Flick HAT itself, plastic bolts, plastic spacers, stickers and information cards.

The Raspberry Pi Flick HAT Case is priced at £13 including VAT.

“This addition to our product range reinforces Farnell element14’s strengths in helping developers of IoT devices provide greater functionality than ever before,” said Steve Carr, Global Head of Marketing for Premier Farnell.

“This includes enabling devices with control options that are usually only associated with high-end consumer products.”
