AS5601 Magnetic Rotary Position Sensor

ams' 12-bit programmable position sensors for encoder replacement in contactless applications

ams’ AS5601 is a programmable 12-bit magnetic rotary position sensor with incremental quadrature (A/B) outputs. The PUSH output indicates fast airgap changes between the AS5601 and the magnet which can be used to implement a contactless pushbutton function in which the knob can be pressed to move the magnet toward the AS5601. This position sensor is designed for contactless encoder applications and its robust design rejects the influence of any homogenous external stray magnetic fields. Based on planar Hall sensor technology, this device measures the orthogonal component of the flux density (Bz) from an external magnet. The sensor comes in a SOIC-8 package and has an operating temperature range of -40°C to +125°C. The AS5601 is ideal for encoder replacement, contactless rotary knobs with push buttons, and other angular measurement solutions.
